Thankful, mostly

Salida and the Sawatch range from the top of Lil' Rattler

In this season of transition between autumn riding and winter skiing it’s a good time to stop and reflect on the past year to give thanks for what we have.

I know, with all the crazy in the world it can be hard. With so much of the population seemingly under the influence of the social media outrage algorithm and so many leaders actively stoking it for political gain sometimes it’s hard to find anything to be thankful for.

I’ve written about the mountain bike trails here in Salida multiple times on this blog including here, here and here.  My perspective is as someone who has recently discovered them in their current, mostly developed and growing state.  I continue to explore them almost daily and continue to meet others who also love to ride.  I’m thankful every day.

But it wasn’t always this way.  And now the good folks over at The Radavist have written a nice history of how the Salida mountain biking community grew from a vision to a reality over the past 30+ years.

Check it out.

Happy Thanksgiving.  Go for a ride.  Don’t let the crazy get you.
