Because the trails are sunnier and tend to stay snow-free in the winter, I was riding the Arkansas Hills side of town yesterday. I was rolling along a trail called Backbone, just above town when this group strolled across the trail in front of me and stopped uphill to observe me. I stopped to return the observation.

It was kind of unusual to see a mix of rams and ewes. Typically I’ve only seen groups of ewes and solitary or small groups of rams. I guess it’s that time of year. Whatever the reason it made my day, especially seeing them so close to town.
