Whelp, it’s official, we’re locals.
Our season passes showed up in the mail the other day! And not just any season passes but season passes to Monarch, the local hill. No hotels, no spas, no Michelin rated restaurants. Just pure, natural Rocky Mountain powder and a nice local vibe. Sounds wonderful. In the age of Covid it sounds perfect.
Back when I was living in Colorado as a poor college student I could never afford a season pass because, you know, food. Then I moved to Texas and a season pass seemed pointless because we could only ski two or three times a year and if you have to go to all the trouble of getting on a plane to ski you might as well visit as many different places as you can.
But now Monarch is just 30 minutes up the road and despite Covid, they’re planning to open for the 2020/21 season. We’re looking forward to driving rather than flying to ski.
Like a local.
